Collection: S.A Noory
It's one thing to view a work of art, but another to completely fall in love with it. This is what S.A. Noory is capable of—captivating audiences with distinct and ornate paintings as he takes them on a journey through desert plains, distinguished cultures, architectural marvels, and a pursuit of spirituality. Initially a self-taught artist inspired by his grandfather's training in miniature art, he soon developed a proclivity toward similar styles of painting and went on to study Fine Arts, garnering international acclaim. Known for his meticulously detailed technique, laden with traditional frames of reference, particularly compositions inspired by the vastness of Rajasthan and its culture, S.A. Noory never ceases to evoke awe in viewers with his elaborate works of art.
His paintings are further embellished with an affinity for Sufism and oriental romanticism, enhanced by his color palette. He uses hues of yellow and brown to represent the sandy plains he fell in love with, contrasted with striking blues and greens that depict various ornamental forms of surrounding architecture, both realistic and imaginative. All these elements encapsulate the complex quality of his finished work.
At Art Citi gallery, he exhibits another range of works that follow suit with his aesthetic, depicting compositions that highlight several architectural vistas in superlative detail. These structures are adorned with exquisite tile work and ornate designs that leave the viewer's eye wandering amidst the captivating intricacies of his work. He also portrays figures dressed in traditional clothing and vibrant turbans, engrossed in religious texts or musical instruments, reflecting Sufi narratives. This contrast reveals the spiritual journey these individuals seek in their own ways.
These works present a celebration above all else—Noory pours his love and appreciation for Rajasthani visuals, dating back to his work in 1998. The Sufi-religious motifs embedded in his pieces speak more about the artist's intrinsic inclinations toward the subject matter, whether through a subconscious conflict or a reparative urge to seek contentment. This leads one to believe that this type of work materializes out of love or devotion. They do not aim to incite debate or conflict but instead represent a composite of peace and spirituality. One can find themselves washed over with a feeling of wholeness and tranquility as they stand before such works, lost in its intricacies, and rediscover themselves in its harmonious coherence—all serving as an affirmation of the artist's skill and dedication, manifested on the canvas.
